Report about snapper



Introduction

Do you know a lot about snapper read this to find out even more interesting things about this species of fish. Snapper can be found in many places and they can live up to 60 years. All snapper start there life as females and then in the future only one of them will become a male.

Habitat

Snapper are found in New Zealand and some other places like the Western Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico. Tumure live in warm coastal waters and prefer depths of up to 5-60 metres. These scaly creatures stay near coral reefs so if found by a predator they can dash into the weeds to hide.




Physical features

Snapper are found in muddy harbours and are pale pink on top and silverish down below. They have a sharp pointy dorsal fin alongside the fishes head. Don’t get to close or the fish will bite you and leave a scar.
Diet

Snapper are carnivorous, this means they prefer to eat meat. These fish like eating shellfish, kina, crab, crustaceans and juicy sea worms that they find along the seafloor. Pagrus Auratus eat kina by sucking them up in their mouths and crushing them with their powerful teeth.



Population

There is a lot of snapper in New Zealand but sadly some species of snapper are becoming endangered. This is mainly because humans keep on catching heaps of fish. Good thing that now you’re only allowed to catch 7 of these tasty treats but they can’t be below the minimum size of 30 centimeters.



Breeding

Snapper like warm water for better spawning success and the survival of its young. Fertilized eggs float to the top of the ocean and hatch within a day. It takes 4-5 years before the larvae reach maturity. Until then they can find food on their own.




Conclusion
Snapper are delicious but you should make sure there is still some left for other people because your not the only one who likes snapper.
